Head toward the ocean on Kapahulu Ave. Cross the street at Kalakaua Ave. At THE BANYAN TREE, ride on the sidewalk and catch the bike path along the ocean behind the WAIKIKI AQUARIUM. At THE WAR MEMORIAL, hop into the bike lane on Kalakaua Ave, next to KAPIOLANI PARK. After the water fountain, stay straight and explore the HISTORIC HOMES on Coconut Ave until it intersects Diamond Head Road. Make a right and climb to the top where views of local surfers and the DIAMOND HEAD LIGHTHOUSE await. Enjoy driving through the Beverly Hills of Oahu as Diamond Head Road becomes Kahala Ave. Follow the stop sign to the 72. Stay on the bike path here and be prepared to ride with some pretty fast traffic against some strong winds. After four miles of riding make a left at Kuli’ou’ou Road. It’s going to be a thigh burner the rest of the way. Make a right on Kalaau Place and follow it to the base of the KULI’OU’OU RIDGE TRAILHEAD. The 2.5 mile trail traverses through an assortment of exotic vegetation typical of arid areas: Christmas berry, haole koa, formosa koa, ironwood, Norfolk pine and guava. It ends at the summit with a spectacular view of the windward side of O’ahu and Waimanalo. When the hike is completed, hop on back onto the 72 and head towards Waikiki. Take the Kilauea exit and make a left to stay on Kilauea underneath the freeway. Feel free to visit the KAHALA MALL, then make a left onto 18th Ave. Make a right on Diamond Head Road. Pass the entrance to Diamond Head, then make a right on Paki Ave. Make a left at Kapahulu Ave, then a right on Lemon Road to return to the shop.
